The South Bedfordshire Campaign for Real Ale in Bedfordshire Shopping Resource

The South Beds CAMRA branch area covers most of South Bedfordshire, delimited by the county boundary, the A507 in the North, and the A600 in the East, and includes the larger towns of Luton, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard and Houghton Regis, as well as other smaller towns and villages. Heres a map of our branch area. Although the beer scene, in an area with 240 to 260 pubs, has improved, a large number of pubs, unfortunately, still dont serve caskconditioned real ale. Those that do, are subject to continuous surveying by the branch, and a number are selected every year for inclusion in the GOOD BEER GUIDE, CAMRAs flagship publication, which is published annually in the early autumn. The branch tries to survey as many licensed premises as is possible but we need more surveyors. We would welcome any news, which would assist us with this task. Better still check the DIARY for branch events and join us when were in a pub near to you. If you know of any licensed premises open to the public, which may be worthy of entry to the Good Beer Guide, please contact us – we don’t want any to ‘get away’. Conversely, if you have strong reasons to disagree with any entry, please let us know why. After contributing to the production of the Good Beer Guide, our main campaigning activity is to organise the Luton Beer Festival. This festival is held annually in mid February.
